Child abuse – trace an object

Established in 2017 by Europol, the Stop Child Abuse – Trace An Object initiative has yielded the following results (July 2021):

Over 27 300 tips have been sent in via the general public;
Investigators were able to narrow down a country in 115 instances;
23 children victim of child sexual abuse have been identified and removed from harm;
5 offenders have been identified and prosecuted.

Based on this success, the Australian Federal Police launched in March 2021 their own version of the Stop Child Abuse initiative focusing on the Asia Pacific region.

The term “victim” means a person who has suffered direct physical, emotional, or pecuniary harm as a result of the commission of a crime.

In the United States, in Europe, in Australia, in Asia and in more countries “victims” are expressly afforded certain rights and services to assist, during and in the aftermath of the commission of that crime. For these reasons, within this site, authors still make extensive use of this term.

Adopting survivor and trauma-informed approaches, should not conflict or compete with the provision of assistance entitled to victims.
